WHY I’M INTRODUCING BOXING BOOTS INTO MY WARDROBE

WHY I’M INTRODUCING BOXING BOOTS INTO MY WARDROBE

A mate summed the outfit up pretty well....

work at 1. boxing class at 5.

That’s basically the point.

I’ve been getting more interested in clothes that don’t quite belong together. Tailoring with sportswear. Huge trousers with a really narrow shoe. Something polished next to something beaten up.

The boxing boot has become part of that for me.

I found this old pair of Puma boots and what I liked most wasn’t just the fact they were boxing shoes. It was the shape.

We’ve spent years wearing wider and wider trousers, usually balanced with bigger trainers or heavier shoes. I’m starting to prefer the opposite.

big trouser. tight boot.

The trouser carries all the volume, then the silhouette suddenly becomes really precise at the ankle.

There’s something almost historical about that proportion too. Look back at older menswear and you often see fuller trousers falling over narrow, close-fitting boots. I’m not interested in recreating an old look, but I am interested in borrowing the logic.

old proportion. new context.

I’m also not saying everyone suddenly needs boxing boots.

That’s not really the point.

I’m more interested in what happens when you change the shape at the bottom of an outfit.

A loafer gives you one silhouette.
A chunky trainer gives you another.
A narrow boxing boot changes everything above it.

Sometimes that small shift is enough to make the clothes you already own feel completely different.

And that’s probably what I’m looking for more of right now.
